In 2012 a group of local theater lovers gathered in a living room to read the first draft of Strike Story (which chronicles the 1912 textile strikes in Little Falls), written by Little Falls author Angela Harris. It was a jovial evening that produced several interesting reader’s theater performances. Little did we know that this foray into theater would snowball into an active, talented theater group.
The next summer, our Shakespeare in the Park program launched with As You Like It. We didn’t know if anyone would attend besides our family and friends. To our surprise, we played to audiences of nearly a hundred. Evidently there was a thirst for Shakespeare, and affordable theater, and were happy to oblige. Since As You Like It, we have performed parts of Twelfth Night, all of A Midsummer Night’s Dream, and Much Ado About Nothing.
Not content with simply summer theater, we branched out into producing short, original plays during “New Play November”; performing original one-acts at the Little Falls Cheese Festival; increasing performance locations to include Caroga, Herkimer, and Utica NY; performing Shakespeare for public schools; creating immersive murder mystery; and, most recently, exploring radio-drama with an original podcast: The Brass Lantern.
We like to be different. To explore. To entertain. To challenge. And LiFT our community through theater.
